POSITION SUMMARY: Examines, tests, diagnoses, and administers remedial treatments for patients with speech, language, swallowing and hearing disorders. Evaluates patients regarding the application of a wide variety of therapeutic techniques for rehabilitation of speech, language, hearing and oral motor disorders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Conducts patient assessments by reviewing medical history and orders for treatment. Collects data related to the patients rehabilitation potential and information from other sources pertinent to the delivery of comprehensive patient care.
  2. Provides speech, language and swallowing diagnostic and therapy techniques in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations and standards of practice as set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  3. Performs evaluations with special attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation and auditory skill, swallowing abilities, and/or appropriateness of an augmentative system.
  4. Uses a variety of assessment techniques to identify patient strengths and weaknesses necessary to develop appropriate treatment plans; incorporates ongoing input from the patient, family and associates.
  5. Maintains active and support communication with the patient regarding progress, problems, home programs and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
  6. Assumes primary responsibility for the implementation of a speech language pathology care plan; develops appropriate goals and plans of treatment.
  7. Evaluates and documents test results and the patient/family response to speech language pathology interventions as they relate to stated goals and expected outcomes.
  8. Maintains appropriate documentation according to department policies.
  9. Works as a team member with health care personnel to achieve established rehabilitation standards.
  10. Responds to requests of physicians, personnel, patients and families in a friendly, prompt and caring manner maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and respect.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Masters degree from an accredited Speech Language Pathology program.
  • Current Wisconsin Speech Language Pathologist license.
  • Certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional
  • Rescuers and Health Care Providers Certification. Non-certified employees must attain certification within 60 days of employment in position.
  • One year related experience.
