This position is eligible for a $15,000 Sign On Bonus for RN's with greater than 1 year experience.
 
We are seeking a Registered Nurse with the PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI. 
 
RN's in the recovery room are responsible for the care of the patient immediately post-op.  Patients can come out of surgery still intubated and require 1:1 nursing care.  The staff cares for patients from Birth-Geriatric age.  We care for patients that have had orthopedic/neuro/spine/cardiac/GI/General (ear, nose, throat, podiatry, vascular and dental) surgeries.  The PACU RN also takes care of the patient prior to going to the ICU.  It is a very fast paced environment.
 
Our first shift starts at 0730 in the morning and then is staggered throughout the day.  The last 2 nurses that come in start at 1300-2130 and they are the on call nurses.  Weekends are required and currently the RN works every 5-6th weekend on call. Call starts at 2130 Friday evening and ends on Monday at 0700.   On the weekends there are always 2 RN's on call.  There is also a Holiday rotation.  The RN staff self-schedule.

Responsibilities will include: 
  • Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience. Participates in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction. 
  • Collects data using established assessment format.
  • Assesses emotional needs and learning readiness to develop holistic plan of care.
  • Conducts and documents total nursing assessment of the health status of patients by collecting and recording subjective and objective data.
  • Plans for care through the existing episode of illness onto the next level of care to promote continuity of quality care and optimal outcome.
  • Defines and alters protocols/procedures to meet care needs of individual patients.
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of patient care standards and practices normally acquired through completion of a nursing program. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Possesses an active Wisconsin RN nursing license.
  • Current CPR certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • 2+ years of critical care experience preferred.
