POSITION SUMMARY: Assists in the non-professional aspects of preparing and dispensing medications. Such duties include, but are not limited to, filling and dispensing routine orders for stock supplies to patient care areas, preparing, packaging and labeling unit dose medication orders, filling medication cart, preparing parenteral drug products, maintaining inventories of drug supplies, keying departmental and patient specific billing records and orders into the pharmacy computer system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Answers incoming calls and directs them to the appropriate person, taking messages as needed.
Assists pharmacist in the preparation and delivery of medications to patient care areas. Prepares unit dose medication orders as required by patients.
Processes charges and credits in the pharmacy computer system.
Fills and distributes medication carts daily, keeping required records of dispensation.
Performs daily checks of medication refrigerators and crash carts; documenting accordingly.
Assists in maintaining and documenting narcotic inventory control system.
Performs purchasing, inventory, manufacturing and prepackaging functions to maintain appropriate stock levels according to departmental policies and procedures. Monitors expiration dates of stock and removes outdated supplies.
Processes incoming stock and maintains appropriate records.
Prepares billing and statistical reports as needed.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports directly to the Pharmacy Director.
Works closely with staff from all departments to provide direct patient care.
Regular contact with patients, residents and families.
Work is performed largely in a pleasant hospital environment with minimal chance for personal injury.
Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.
Occasionally required to sit or climb.
Required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of department supplies and equipment.
Occasionally may need to move patients and/or equipment of more than 100 pounds.
Requires specific vision abilities for far vision, near vision, depth perception, colors, accommodation and
Vision correctable to 20/40.
